How to Use Nova Hair Dye Shampoo: Step-by-Step Guide
Share
Nova Hair Instant Dye Shampoo colours your hair in one simple routine: apply, wait, rinse. Follow these steps for the most even and natural result.
What you need
- Nova Hair Instant Dye Shampoo in your shade
- The gloves and ear covers included in the package
- An old towel
- A timer
Step 1: Do a patch test
Before using it for the first time, apply a small amount behind your ear and wait 48 hours. If you notice redness, itching or swelling, do not use the product. Like any hair colour product, it can cause a reaction in some people, so never skip this step.
Step 2: Protect your skin
Put on the gloves and ear covers. Rub a little petroleum jelly or a rich cream along your hairline and around your ears to prevent staining on the skin.
Step 3: Shake and apply
Shake the bottle well. Apply the shampoo to dry or damp hair and massage it in evenly, from the roots to the ends. Pay extra attention to the areas with the most grey, such as the temples and the parting. For beards, work it in with your fingers against the direction of growth so it reaches every hair.
Step 4: Let it develop
Leave it on for at least 5 minutes. For full coverage, use these times as a guide:
- Black shades: around 15 minutes
- Light and dark brown: around 25 minutes
- Red and purple: around 30 minutes
Stubborn grey hair can need the full time. Results vary per person, so you can adjust the time to reach the shade you want.
Step 5: Rinse thoroughly
Rinse with lukewarm water until the water runs clear. Then dry your hair as usual. The colour is visible straight away.
Step 6: Not deep enough? Repeat
If the colour is lighter than you hoped, simply repeat the routine. Many people with a lot of grey get the best result after a second application.
Aftercare: keep your colour fresh
- Wash with lukewarm rather than hot water
- Use a mild, sulfate-free shampoo between colour sessions
- Refresh your colour every 1 to 2 weeks, or whenever your greys start to show
